Passport apostille is a process of getting certification from the Ministry of external affairs on the passport copy. Passport apostille is a service offered by MEA for all Indian issued documents that are being used in foreign countries.

Apostille is done if you are using any indian documents outside india specifically in countries that are part of hague nation. Apostille is a legalisation process for Hague countries.

Indian Joined the Hague convention on 1st June 2016. Since then Indian documents do not need Embassy attestation if documents are being used in Hague countries.

Note – If you are travelling to countries that are not part of hague Nation ( UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Thailand etc ) You need to get additional verification called embassy attestation.

To get Apostille on the passport copy you must submit following pages of the passport

  1. Page 1- Indian Emblem page with Passport officers seal
  2. Page 2 – Photo Name information page
  3. Page 3 – last Address Page

Procedure to get Passport Apostille

Below are the process of getting the Passport apostille

  1. Prepare the passport as explained above ( 3 pages scan copy )
  2. Submit the passport on   Portal
  3. Provide the delivery address
  4. Make the payment
  5. Receive the Passport copy with apostille

Passport is issued by the Ministry of external affairs india. MEA India Comes under the central government. Hence apostille will be done by the MEA india.

Before getting apostille your passport goes through many verification process such as

  1. Document verification at origin ( passport issued office )
  2. MEA attestation will will done on the backside of the document

Finally apostille will be pasted on the backside of the passport copy

  1. Provide Proper colour scan copy of the Passport pages
  2. Verify the delivery address passport apostille can be delivered to foreign address as well
  3. Check the Expiry date of the Passport if its very near its always better to reissue the passport and then apply for the passport
  4. If you are living in foreign you can reissue your Indian passport at the nearby Indian embassy.

After getting the passport apostille verify the following details on the apostille

  1. Name on the apostille should match the name on the passport
  2. Check whether the complete name is written or not
  3. Check the date of the apostille ( should not be more than 6 months old ) meaning you cannot use apostille which are older than 6 months from the date of issue.
  4. Unique code on the apostille.
